The
part of the ancient Province of Gascony known as the Landes comprises
long stretches of beaches, largely flat pine forests and a hilly region in
the north. The rural Gîte de Maynus, with its "3 ears of corn"
rating by Gîtes de France, is located in the heart of the Landes,
next to a ranch where its owners breed the special race of cows used in the
courses landaises, the gentler version of bull-fighting where the cows live
to see another day.
Maynus, an authentic country gîte, combines tradition and originality.
It consists of a spacious house with every possible amenity and its own garden,
in a calm countryside setting with an environment that has been carefully
preserved.
It is on the outskirts of Saint-Sever, a town whose wealth of historical
monuments bears witness to its prestigious past. Saint-Sever is a stopping-place
on the pilgrims' road to Compostella and its abbey-church is on Unesco's World
Heritage List.
Maynus was known to the Romans in the time of Julius Caesar and the
remains of a Roman villa outside the nearby town of Augreilh can be visited
at any time.
Dax, with its thermal spas, is only 30 km from Saint-Sever while the
Landes pine forest is on the doorstep. The Pyrenees, the Basque country, Biarritz,
the Atlantic beaches and Lourdes are an hour's drive away.
Saint-Sever is also famous for its gastronomic specialities and its
bull-fighting traditions.
The Gîte de Maynus can offer you both a restful holiday and interesting
leisure activities, for a week-end break or a longer stay, in a unique
setting and with the warm welcome typical of the South-West of France.
